The South Carolina Piedmont site, formerly the Calhoun CZO, has the warmest, wettest climate of the BCZN sites, with a mixed-conifer and deciduous-hardwood forest. The site is advantageous because it is on accessible national forest land and has both felsic and mafic crystalline bedrock.
