Dr. Gill is an Earth system scientist whose primary scientific interests are in atmosphere-lithosphere interaction, particularly aeolian (wind-related) processes and materials (dust, sand, aeolian landforms, wind erosion) and atmospheric aerosols (particulate matter), and their roles in earth system dynamics, biogeochemical cycling, environmental change, and environmental and human health. Dr. Gill's research interests also include the environmental geochemistry of trace elements; the geology and ecology of arid and semiarid lands; saline lakes and playas; salt/evaporite mineralogy; the relationship between landforms, climate/weather, and ecosystems; mesoscale meteorology and air pollution meteorology; natural resource management in arid and semiarid lands; and the intersection of art and environmental science. He is a licensed Professional Geologist in the state of Texas and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
