Dr. Karplus’ research focuses on structure and tectonics of the Earth's lithosphere using active- and passive-source seismic methods. She is currently studying the Himalayan Seismogenic Zone using aftershock seismicity data from the 2015 M7.8 Gorkha, Nepal earthquake. She also has experience or active projects studying crustal structure and tectonics in the northern Tibetan Plateau, West Texas, Sumatra Subduction Zone, and southern California. Dr. Karplus has a strong interest in "large N" seismic arrays (incorporating many seismometers) and integrating active- and passive-source seismic data with other geophysical datasets.
