I am scholar-teacher whose interests in educational equity includes research and interventions directed toward broadening participation of minorities in higher education, promoting career advancement and faculty development especially for women of color, examining the implications of race and racism in education, and exploring evidence-based strategies for effective teaching, learning, and assessment at minority serving institutions. My formal training was in American Cultural Studies, which allowed me to examine how race and racism have shaped American life and how minority populations have contributed to American society. My current research is very collaborative in nature and involves sharing a faculty development intervention piloted at my home institution with six other minority serving institutions for adaptation and institutionalization. Looking ahead, I am very committed to exploring best practices for establishing healthy and mutually beneficial multi-institutional collaborations as well as university, school, and community partnership as a way of supporting students in majority-minority public schools.
