Catchment and Critical Zone Science – Understanding Ecosystems through Monitoring, Analysis, and Experimentation

Catchment, critical zone, and ecosystem studies form the backbone of our understanding of hydrological and biogeochemical processes. These place-based studies, with their sustained monitoring, have significantly shaped our knowledge of fundamental processes and the consequences of environmental change on ecosystems. They play a crucial role in informing environmental policy and generating transformative ideas that advance science and benefit society.

The Catchment and Critical Zone Science – Understanding Ecosystems through Monitoring, Analysis, and Experimentation AGU24 session invites researchers to contribute new insights through observation, experimentation, or modeling. We are particularly interested in studies that synthesize data across different sites and over time, revealing comprehensive understandings of ecosystem dynamics. Contributions from research programs that are pivotal to scientific discovery, resource management, policy-making, or societal well-being are highly encouraged.

This session aims to highlight the importance of catchment and ecosystem studies in advancing our understanding of environmental processes and their broader impacts. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, we seek to push the boundaries of science and enhance our ability to manage and protect natural resources effectively.
