Undergraduate successes at 1st CarbonEARTH conference

First Carbon Conference at Penn State hosted by faculty and graduate fellows from the CarbonEarth program.   The carbon research community within the university came out in support of the event which featured talks by distinguished faculty on novel carbon research and an undergraduate/graduate/postdoctoral research poster competition.

There were 60 posters presenting carbon research across all disciplines at Penn State. Speakers included Sir Harold Kroto (Florida State University), Dr. Mauricio Terrones (Physics PSU), Dr. Jenni Evans (Meteorology PSU), Dr. Sybil Seitzinger (Director, International Geosphere-Biosphere Program (IGBP)), Dr. Klaus Keller (Geosciences PSU) and Dr. Richard Alley (Geosciences PSU). From the undergraduate poster category, Most Outstanding and 2nd Place were awared to CZO undergraduates, Nina Bingham (Geosciences) and Lauren Leidel (Energy and Mineral Engineering) who presented "Addition Profile Analysis of C, N, Pb and Mn across a Climate Transect" and "Shale weathering on slopes across a latitudinal climosequence," respectively.
