Abstract

Changes in clay mineralogy of the upper 1-3 meters of a "pristine" Hardwood Site, Pine Site, and the cultivated field, indicate changes that may be related to land use. The cultivated field and Hardwood site appear to represent end members with distinct clay mineral assemblages, while the Pine Site appears to represent a top-down transition towards the Hardwood condition.
